In recognition of the end of slavery in North America, the book price is adjusted to honor June 19, 1865, the date that Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas and announced to more than 250,000 enslaved Black people that they were free by executive decree. They were people who were already free but didn't know it. Isn't that like so many of us, metaphorically in chains, crying out to be free.
